How to Make a Fire Hose Washer

## Tools and Materials

* 1-inch fire hose

* 3/4-inch hose clamp

* 1/2-inch male pipe thread adapter

* Teflon tape

* Utility knife

Instructions

1. Cut a 12-inch length of fire hose.

2. Slide the hose clamp onto one end of the hose, about 1 inch from the end.

3. Tighten the hose clamp to secure it in place.

4. Wrap the Teflon tape around the threads of the male pipe thread adapter.

5. Screw the male pipe thread adapter into the other end of the hose until it is snug.

6. Turn the water on and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the hose clamp or the male pipe thread adapter until the leaks stop.

Your fire hose washer is now complete!

Tips

* If you do not have a hose clamp, you can use a piece of duct tape to hold the hose in place.

* If you do not have Teflon tape, you can use a small amount of plumber's putty to seal the threads of the male pipe thread adapter.

* You can also make a fire hose washer using a smaller piece of fire hose, such as a 3/4-inch or 1/2-inch hose. Just follow the same steps as above, using the appropriate size hose clamp and male pipe thread adapter.

* Fire hose washers are a great way to reuse old fire hoses and they are also very durable and long-lasting.
