How to Find the Vent Between a Freezer and the Refrigerator On a Side-by-Side

In a side-by-side refrigerator, the freezer is usually on the left side while the refrigerator is on the right side. The wall between the two sides is home to two vents that circulate cool air between the sides. One vent moves air from the freezer into the refrigerator, while the other vent takes air out of the refrigerator and into the freezer. If the vents get blocked, it results in decreased airflow and warmer temperatures for both sides.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door for the refrigerator side.

    • 2

Move any food items that are up against the center wall. This is the wall that is shared by the freezer and refrigerator.

    • 3

Feel along the top of the wall for the top vent between the two sides. It should be parallel to the ice maker. This vent pulls air into the refrigerator from the freezer.

    • 4

Bend down to inspect the lower area of the wall to find the lower vent. In some refrigerators, it is located on the wall above the two crisper drawers. In other units, it is located on the wall by the lowest crisper drawer. This vent moves air from the refrigerator into the freezer.
