How to Lock the Detergent Cup on a GE Dishwasher

Detergent cups on GE dishwashers come in two different styles: a “turn-to-close” cover and a “push-to-close” cover. Both detergent cup styles lock into place to ensure the detergent will not prematurely spill out of the cup. Occasionally, there are times when the detergent cup cover will not lock into place and that causes the dishwashing detergent to mix into the water before it reaches the proper time during the wash cycle. To ensure your dishwasher can properly do its job, you must lock the detergent cup closed.

Instructions

    • 1

View the control panel on the GE dishwasher and ensure the line on the timer lines up with the “Off” indicator. If it does not, turn the knob until the indicator line lines up with the word “Off.”

    • 2

Fill the detergent to the “Full” line. If there is too much detergent inside the cup, the lid may not close properly.

    • 3

Turn the cover clockwise until it clicks shut over the cup if you have a “turn-to-close” cup. For a “push-to-close” cup, lift the cover up, fold it over onto the cup, and press it down until it clicks shut.
