How to Make a Dishwasher Detergent Door Close

The detergent cup is often one of those components inside a dishwasher you might not think much about until the dispenser isn’t working. If the detergent cup won’t close, perhaps the wash cycle was interrupted before the detergent cup opened automatically, or residue prevents the latch from closing completely. Getting the detergent cup to close again might require a few steps to accomplish.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the detergent cup and latch with a clean, damp cloth to remove any detergent or food residue that might be preventing the latch from shutting. You may need a scrub brush to clean debris from recessed areas. Wipe dry.

    • 2

Turn the control knob on applicable dishwasher models in a clockwise motion for one full revolution. Hold the lid on the detergent cup and turn the handle clockwise until the lid clicks shut.

    • 3

Rotate the timer knob clockwise to “Off” on manual knob models, if the detergent cup still doesn't close, then push the detergent dispenser lid shut.

    • 4

Touch the “Start/Reset” button on applicable models two times to reset the cycle. Hold the lid on the detergent cup and turn clockwise until the lid closes.
