CGS980SEMSS LP Conversion Instructions

The CGS980SEMSS is a model gas stove manufactured by General Electric (GE). The CGS980SEMSS features a built-in oven, four standard burners and a fifth oval-shaped center burner. This GE stove can also be converted from gas to propane (LP) by changing the direction of the convertible regulator nipple on the gas orifice. The GE owner's manual states that only a certified technician or GE repairman should make the conversion, but in actuality the repair can be made by the homeowner with a little bit of experience working with gas supply lines.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the gas stove from the wall and shut off the gas supply line on the wall if it is still connected to the unit.

    • 2

Use the channel locks to remove the natural gas line line from the main regulator on back of the stove.

    • 3

Remove the regulator with the channel locks, flip it around and screw it back into the stove, with the LP markings showing.

    • 4

Open the oven door and the oven broiler door. Remove the oven bake burner with the channel locks, flip it around and install it with the channel locks. Repeat the procedure to convert the burner inside the oven broiler.

    • 5

Remove the five stove burner grates by hand. Use a 1/2-inch wrench to turn each of the burner's brass orifices so that their pins are lined up with the LP setting.

    • 6

Connect the LP supply line to the main regulator orifice on the back of the stove. Turn on the propane supply valve and turn the stove burners and oven on to test the burners. Slide the stove back into place once the burners have all been checked.
