How to Get Rid of Mildew on a Pumpkin Vine

Pumpkins grow on long vines that stretch out along the surface of the ground. Because the vines and pumpkins are in constant contact with the soil, they are more susceptible to disease than other plants. One problem that occurs during periods of wet weather is the development of powdery mildew. This mildew is white in appearance and can appear on all parts of the vine. Getting rid of pumpkin mildew can be accomplished using household products.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on gardening gloves and pick off all of the leaves and pumpkins that have visible evidence of a white powdery mildew on them. Dispose of the material in a trash bag and throw it away.

    • 2

Fill a hand-held garden sprayer with a solution of 2 tbsp. of neem oil, 1 1/2 tsp. of liquid dish soap and 1 gallon of water. Close the sprayer and shake it gently to mix the solution, but try not to create many bubbles.

    • 3

Spray the mixture onto the pumpkin vines, making sure to saturate the tops and bottoms of all leaves, the entire vine and any pumpkins that have developed.

    • 4

Wait one week and respray all parts of the pumpkin vine to prevent the powdery mildew from redeveloping.
