How to Remove the Head on John Deere Weed Eater

John Deere string trimmers are used to maintain areas of your lawn inaccessible to lawn mowers. A string trimmer can also be used in place of an edger to create a clean edge along sidewalks, driveways and flower beds. John Deere string trimmers utilize a nylon string that rotates very fast so that it can cut weeds and grass like a blade. If the string makes contact with solid objects such as concrete, rocks or trees, the string may break. When the string breaks, more string can be released from the trimmer by bumping the stringhead on the ground while the trimmer is spinning. When the stringhead runs out of string, more string can be wound onto the spool, but first the stringhead must be removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the string trimmer's engine, then turn the trimmer upside down so that the stringhead on the bottom of the trimmer is accessible.

    • 2

Locate the tabs on the side of the trimmer stringhead.

    • 3

Push the tabs inward. Pull the stringhead off of the trimmer. Once the stringhead is removed, new string can be installed onto the trimmer.
