How to Get Rid of Mildew Stains on Outdoor Fabric Furniture

Mildew stains do more than erode the appearance of your outdoor furniture. Over time, they also discolor and damage the furniture's fabric. Mildew is more likely to grow on outdoor furniture in hot climates with high humidity levels, or after the furniture gets wet from rain or other water sources. The mildew grows on the dirt and pollen that collects on the furniture. Clean the mildew stains from the furniture before allowing it to do damage beyond the fabric's appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on goggles and rubber gloves. Scrub the fabric on the furniture, using a brush, to remove the loose mildew and mold along with surface dirt and pollen.

    • 2

Pour 1 gallon of clean water into a bucket. Mix in 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach, if the furniture fabric is white. Mix in 1/2 cup of color-safe, nonchlorine bleach, if the furniture fabric is colored.

    • 3

Dip a cloth into the bleach/water mixture, and wipe the mildew stains on the furniture with the cloth. Allow the mixture to soak into the fabric for about 10 minutes.

    • 4

Rinse the stain fully with water from a garden hose. Allow the furniture to dry in the sun.
