How to Assemble a Wishing Well

Decorative wishing wells are appropriate for placing indoor or out. They provide little function, but offer the wisher a place to project a wish -- maybe even leaving a financial donation behind in hopes it increases the likelihood the wish comes true. Wishing well kits usually have a few pieces consisting of the well, roof, a vertical support with handle and the bucket. The bucket is secured with a rope to pull it up and down. Each wishing well varies in its construction, but has some similarities in the assembly.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert each end of the spindle into the holes on the vertical supports. The spindle is the piece that the rope and bucket will hang from.

    • 2

Attach the handle to one end of the spindle. Insert a screw into the end of the handle. Tighten the screw. Traditionally the handle is what turns the spindle to lower the bucket into the well.

    • 3

Lift the vertical supports. Place them inside of the well. Push the screws or bolts through any predrilled holes on the outside of the well and into the vertical supports. Tighten the screws or bolts to connect the well to the supports.

    • 4

Position the roof on top of the vertical supports. Push the screws or bolts through the predrilled holes through the roof and into the vertical supports. Tighten the bolts or screws. Depending on the well kit, you may have to add shingle panels to the roof; these will screw into the roof frame.

    • 5

Tie the end of the rope to one side of the bucket handle. Lower the bucket to the bottom of the well. Wrap the rope around the spindle two or three times. Tie the open end of the rope around the other bucket handle.
