How to Hook a Flag to the Flag Pole Rope

While you can use cable ties, mounts or even Velcro to attach a flag to a pole, traditionally, a flag should be attached in a removable way to a rope on a pulley system so that it can be raised and lowered as needed. When flying your country's flag, it should be lowered at night and during inclement weather.

Instructions

    • 1

Pinch together the flag pole's rope to create a loop and thread the entire loop through the eye on one of the hooks. Slip the loop over the hook and pull the rope tight.

    • 2

Measure the distance between the grommets on your flag.

    • 3

Repeat Step 1 with the second hook. They should be placed at the same distance between the flag's grommets.

    • 4

Hook the flag onto the rope by slipping one snap hook into each grommet.

    • 5

Pull the rope to raise the flag, ensuring that you're pulling in the correct direction to avoid the flag being raised upside down. When the flag reaches the desired height, secure the rope to the flagpole to keep the flag stationary.
