# How to Pull Up a Flagpole
Flagpoles are a common site at stores, offices and homes. They can be used to display national flags, state flags or even seasonal decorations. While flagpoles come in many different heights, most work on the same principle -- a pulley system. This pulley system is used to pull flags up and down a flagpole.

Attach the flag to the clips on the rope attached to the flagpole. Clip style varies by manufacturer -- some snap on while others slide or hook on.

Grab the side of the rope where the flag is not attached.

Pull down on the rope until the flag is at the desired level. Wrap the rope around the cleat to finish.

Untie the rope from the cleat and pull the opposite side of the rope if you want to lower the flag.
