- ½ inch drive ratchet and socket set
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Torx wrench set
Materials:
- New drive belt
- New deck belt
Instructions:
1. Park your riding mower on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Disconnect the spark plug wire.
3. Remove the seat pan by lifting it up and pulling it forward.
4. Locate the idler pulley for the deck belt. It is located on the left side of the mower, just below the deck.
5. Loosen the idler pulley bolt with the ½ inch drive ratchet and socket.
6. Slide the deck belt off of the idler pulley and remove it from the mower.
7. Locate the drive belt. It is located on the right side of the mower, just below the engine.
8. Remove the clutch guard. It is attached by a few bolts.
9. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt with the ½ inch drive ratchet and socket.
10. Slide the drive belt off of the tensioner pulley and remove it from the mower.
11. Repeat on the other side to loosen the tensioner pulley bolts on that side.
12. Open your toolbox underneath the mower to reveal idler pulleys and a belt to the transmission. Loosen the idler pulley bolts with a ½ inch drive ratchet and socket.
13. Install the new drive belt. Wrap it around the crankshaft pulley, idler pulley, and transmission pulley.
14. Install the new deck belt. Wrap it around the idler pulley, spindle pulley, and deck pulley.
15. Tighten the tensioner pulley bolts.
16. Tighten the idler pulley bolts.
17. Reattach the clutch guard.
18. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
19. Test the riding mower to ensure the belts are installed correctly and working properly.
