How Do I Disengage the Seat Belt Safety Lock on a John Deere 250 Skid Steer?

John Deere uses integrated sensors in the seat and controls of its Skid Steers and other equipment to ensure operator safety and prevent accidents. The buttons and knobs controlling the functions of the machine can only be made operational when the driver is seated and remains seated in the Skid Steer seat. The combination of these features acts as a mechanical safety belt, basically preventing improper operation and halting the Skid Steer movement any time the protocol is breached. The seat belt safety lock can only be disengaged by following the protocol outlined by John Deere in its owner and operator manuals.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit down in the operator's seat facing forward and fasten the seat belt.

    • 2

Turn the ignition to start the engine running.

    • 3

Push the rocker switch (labeled with a "P" in a circle on the top end and an unlocked lock on the lower end) to the momentary down (unlocked) position and then release the toggle switch back to the middle or resting position to disengage the safety lock.
