John Deere 1070 Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the controls for hydraulic lift, PTO and brakes on the Model 1070. Go slowly the first time you get into the seat and start the engine. Over time, handling the controls will become second nature.

Follow the vehicle-specific maintenance procedures outlined in the "Model 1070 Shop Manual." If you do not still have the copy that came with the tractor when it was new, you should buy one and review it. You can still find gently used copies on eBay and other sites.

Change the oil and filters every six months. This is the single most essential bit of maintenance for the Model 1070 or any tractor. Your tractor's continued long life depends upon it.

Buy bush hogs, harrows, and other implements scaled for the 1070's relatively small size. You don't want to over-task the vehicle, so make sure implements are designed for the tractor's three-point hitch and hydraulic lift, which is rated at 2,000 pounds. Planters, for instance, should not be more than one or two rows wide.
