How to Make a Quadrilateral Canopy

A canopy is a great addition to any summer garden, offering an area where people can get out of the sun and have a refreshing drink. A quadrilateral canopy is a standard four sided sheet. A garden canopy can be easily purchased, but a homemade one can be made to specific specifications and dimensions.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out how much space there is available for the canopy using the measuring tape. Buy a piece of waterproofed canvas to these dimensions.

    • 2

Make a 1-inch hem all the way around the canvas using a needle and thread. A sewing machine makes this an easier task, but any strong thread will be suitable.

    • 3

Insert a grommet in each corner of the canvas. Cut a small hole, the same diameter of the grommet, in each corner. Place each hole in turn on top of the grommeting base so the male grommet is pushing through the hole. Place the washer, or female grommet, on top and attach it using the inserting handle. Make sure the canvas is placed top down on the base so the grommets are inserted the correct way round.

    • 4

Drill a one-quarter-inch hole 1 inch from the end of all four bamboo poles.

    • 5

Fill four plastic flower pots with gravel and insert the bamboo poles into the gravel. Make sure the holes in the bamboo are at the top of the canes, not in the gravel.

    • 6

Attach the canopy to the bamboo using a plastic wire tie, which goes through the hole in the bamboo and the grommet.
