How to Clean Urine on Futon Mattresses

Accidents happen to children, adults and pets alike. Unfortunately, these accidents can occur on your futon bed and cause the urine to soak into the mattress. Removing urine from a mattress can be tricky since you have to treat both the stain and the proteins naturally found in urine. If you don't, the urine odor lingers on your mattress for days, weeks or even months. Fortunately, all-natural cleaners can deal with both the stain and odor without the use of harsh chemicals.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove sheets, blankets and other bedding from the futon mattress. Launder the items as you normally would.

    • 2

Blot the excess urine up with paper towels. Continue blotting until the towels will absorb no more urine.

    • 3

Pour distilled white vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray the areas of the mattress that have been soaked in urine.

    • 4

Blot the excess vinegar with a dry towel.

    • 5

Sprinkle baking soda liberally on top of the urine stain. Allow the baking soda and vinegar to sit on the mattress overnight.

    • 6

Remove the baking soda with a vacuum. Repeat the process if necessary.
