How to Keep a Couch From Sliding on Hardwood

A couch that slides easily might be nice if you enjoy rearranging furniture, but for normal use a sliding couch is annoying. No one wants a couch or chair to slip out from under a guest trying to be seated, and repositioning a constantly moving sofa is frustrating. Placing the couch on a large area rug is one solution, but that comes at the high price of purchasing the rug. There are many materials in your home that are quick and less expensive to prevent the sofa from roaming the floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Place paper underneath the chair leg and trace and cut the outline of the foot.

    • 2

Cut open an old pair of household cleaning gloves. Mark the pattern onto the rubber with a marker and cut four pads.

    • 3

Lift up one end of the couch and stack enough books underneath the end to create a comfortable work area.

    • 4

Cover the inside of the rubber glove piece with permanent glue. Place the glued side of the pad on the bottom of the leg. Repeat the procedure with the second raised couch leg.

    • 5

Wipe off any excess glue around the edges with a damp cloth. Place a paper bag on the floor beneath the legs and lower the sofa. Remove the paper bag once you’re certain the glue has dried and no glue will transfer to the floor.

Repeat the steps for the legs at the opposite end of the couch.
