How to Keep Your Couch From Sliding on Laminate

Sliding your couch along laminate flooring can leave scratches on the flooring as well as indentations. Some scratches are removable, but indentations are permanent. It is also dangerous to attempt to sit on a couch that moves -- the couch may move before you can sit on it, resulting in you falling on the floor. Commercial felt and rubber floor grippers and protectors are available to keep your couch in place on laminate flooring.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Floor Protectors or Grippers

    • 1

Raise one end of your couch, enlisting help if necessary.

    • 2

Press felt floor protectors or rubber floor grippers firmly onto the bottom of your couch legs.

    • 3

Lower your couch and raise your couch’s other end. Press felt floor protectors or rubber floor grippers firmly onto the bottom or your couch's remaining legs. Lower the couch.

    Area Rug

    • 4

Move your couch to one side of the room, enlisting help to keep from sliding the couch across the floor and scratching your laminate flooring.

    • 5

Place an area rug containing a nonslip backing where your couch was located. The area rug needs to be equal to or larger than your couch.

    • 6

Place the couch on the rug. All of your couch’s legs should be on the rug. If one or more legs are not on the rug, your rug is too little and your couch could still move on the laminate flooring.
