How to Make Your Own Headboard Brackets

If you have a bed frame and a headboard, but you do not have the brackets originally used to connect the two pieces together, you can manufacture new brackets out of angle iron. An angle iron is a metal strip bent to 90-degrees along its length. With basic tools, you can quickly build the necessary brackets to connect your headboard to a bed frame.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance between the centers of the mounting holes on the headboard and then measure the distance between the centers of the mounting holes on the bed frame. Select the largest of the tow measurements. Add at least 1-inch onto the measurement and then cut two pieces of angle iron to that measurement with a band saw or cut-off saw.

    • 2

Place marks on one side of the angle iron that measures the distance between the centers of the mounting holes on the bed frame.

    • 3

Drill a hole through each of the marked holes that measure the same diameter as the holes on the bed frame.

    • 4

Place the brackets onto the bed frame and secure both with the screws provided with the bed frame. If you do not have screws with the bed frame, use screws that thread into the existing holes.

    • 5

Center the headboard against the angle iron brackets mounted to the bed frame. Mark the mounting holes located on the headboard onto the angle iron brackets.

    • 6

Drill holes at each marked location.Use a drill bit that measure the same diameter as the holes on the headboard.

    • 7

Mount the headboard to the angle iron brackets with the screws supplied with the headboard. If you did not get screws with the headboard, use screws that thread into the holes.
