Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of your mattress. Most king-size beds are 76 inches wide, but this will vary by manufacturers.

    • 2

Cut a piece of plywood so that it is about 4 inches longer than the width of the mattress. The width depends on what you want from your headboard. If you want something to prop up against, it must be taller than if you just want it for decorative purposes.

    • 3

Sand the edges and corners of the plywood to remove sharp splinters.

    • 4

Lay the foam down on the floor or other flat surface and place the cut plywood on top of it. Use a marker to trace around the plywood and use the utility knife to cut the foam to fit the plywood.

    • 5

Measure the fiber fill so that it will cover the foam and plywood with 5 to 6 extra inches on all four sides. This will allow you to wrap it around the back of the plywood. Cut your chosen fabric the same length.

    • 6

Iron the fabric so that there are no wrinkles in it after it is attached to the headboard.

    • 7

Lay the fabric on a clean, flat surface and lay the fiber fill on top of it. Center the foam in the middle of the fiber fill. Lay the plywood down so that it is even with the foam.

    • 8

Wrap the fabric and fiber fill around the back of the plywood and staple it onto the wood at 2-inch intervals all the way around.

    • 9

Attach flush mounts to the wall behind your bed and to the coordinating spot on the back of the headboard. Slide the mounts together and make sure they are latched and secure.
