Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the top of the bed with a measuring tape.

    • 2

Print out an image of a castle. Bring the image to a print shop and have it blown up so that the width is equal to the dimensions of the top of the bed and the height is at least 4 feet.

    • 3

Lay the blown-up image on top of a sheet of 1/2-inch plywood. Tape the image to the plywood to secure it in place.

    • 4

Trace around the outline of the castle image with a fine-tip marker. Remove the image from the plywood. Set the image aside.

    • 5

Cut around the marker with a reciprocating saw. Remove the cut out plywood.

    • 6

Paint the cut out castle with acrylic paint. Use white for the background, gray to create windows and pink and purple to paint decorative accents, such as flowers on the surface of the castle. Use the printed out image of the castle as a guide for your painting. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours.

    • 7

Pull the bed slightly away from the wall. Position the castle headboard on the wall so that it is centered behind the bed.

    • 8

Drill 3-inch wood screws through the headboard and into the wall. Set the screws every 6- to 8-inches around the entire perimeter of the headboard.

    • 9

Paint over the exposed heads of the screws to conceal them. Use paint colors that coordinate with the colors used on each area; for example, paint the screws white on areas that are white and paint gray on areas that are gray.

    • 10

Dress the bed with plush linens to add to the princess feel. Use pink or purple satin sheets and a coordinating velvet comforter, for example. Alternatively, use linens that feature images of Cinderella.

    • 11

Suspend a length of tulle canopy from the ceiling above the bed. Cut a 16-foot length of tulle. Locate the center point of the tulle and cut a small slit in it with a craft knife. Screw a cup hook into the ceiling above the top of the bed. Attach the slit in the tulle over the cup hook. Fan the material out over the top of the bed to create a canopy effect.
