What Is the Meaning of a Bedroom Suite?

The word "suite" is used to describe a group of items that are used together. You will often see this word used to describe a group of rooms that are interconnected or for home furniture, music and software. A bedroom suite is bedroom furnishings that are related items intended for use in the same room.
  1. Purpose

    • The purpose of the bedroom suite is to provide comfort and convenience all in one room. The bedroom suite consists of multiple pieces of furniture strategically placed around the room based on personal preference and ease of access.

    Function

    • Bedroom suites serve a multifunctional purpose. Furnishings consist of the bed, nightstands, dressers, chests, armoires, television stands, desks and more. The choice of bedroom suite furniture depends on what you use the bedroom for. For basic bedrooms, a bedroom suite consists of the bed, night stands and dressers.

    Features

    • Bedroom suite features are based on how much you want to spend. Basic features consist of wood types, carvings, finishes and hardware. From this point the features of a bedroom suite are endless because a bedroom suite can also be custom made to suit your taste. As an example, headboards, bed frames, dressers, night stands and chairs can be made from your choice of wood, stained or painted any color, and upholstered with any type of material. Hardware such as dresser pulls can be made from most all metals in any design that is available to you.

    Styles

    • There are several styles of bedroom suites that range from old world craftsmanship to country, classic, modern and contemporary. The style reflects how the furniture is constructed. Old-world style furniture reflects the past and often displays intricate carvings along with great detail, and contemporary suites are more sleek and streamlined.

    Size

    • The size of a bedroom suite depends on how many pieces come with it or are available for purchase. Basic bedroom suites may only have three pieces, while others will have five or more. A simple three-piece set will include a bed frame, night stand and dresser while other three-piece suites will include a headboard instead of a dresser because the bed frame has built-in storage. Five-piece suites will add a second night stand and a mirror for the dresser to the three piece suite. These are the most common pieces of furniture that are included in a bedroom suite, but furniture stores can make exceptions and may choose different pieces of furniture to include as part of a set.
