How to Wire Walk-In Coolers

Industrial kitchens and manufacturing facilities need large, powerful coolers to serve their operations. Walk-in coolers can serve this purpose if they are properly constructed and wired. While it can be a complicated process, a successful installation greatly increases the capability of a large, professional kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the two orange, yellow or black wires with taped ends and insert them into the hole in the upper corner of the door. Some coolers have this hole in a bottom corner instead.

    • 2

Screw on the wire caps and then connect the wires to the power cord. The power cord is usually at the door but may also be in the back of the cooler.

    • 3

Snap the power cord into place with a firm jerk. Some power cords do not need to be snapped back at all. Duck tape the cord into place out of the way on the floor and against the cooler wall.

    • 4

Connect with the main power supply outside by inserting the cords into a surge-protected socket.
