How to Double Brew Coffee

Double brewing involves making one batch of coffee with double the amount of coffee grounds and hot water. This creates a more concentrated coffee that can then be diluted.

Here are the steps:

1. Grind Coffee

- Choose a dark roast coffee, which will hold up better to the double brewing process.

- Grind coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency, slightly finer than for a French press.

2. Preheat Equipment

- If using a drip coffee maker, preheat the carafe and filter basket with hot water.

- For a French press, preheat the pot with hot water and discard the water before brewing.

3. Add Coffee and Water

- Add twice the amount of coffee grounds to your coffee maker.

- Use double the amount of hot water specified by your coffee maker's instructions.

- Stir gently to combine the coffee grounds and hot water.

4. Brew Coffee

- Brew the coffee according to your coffee maker's instructions.

5. Transfer Coffee

- If using a drip coffee maker, transfer the brewed coffee to a heat-safe container.

- If using a French press, gently press down on the plunger to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid.

6. Dilute Coffee

- To make your double brewed coffee more palatable, dilute it with hot water or milk.

- The ratio of coffee to water or milk can be adjusted to your taste preference.

Tips:

- For a stronger coffee, use a finer grind and more coffee grounds.

- For a weaker coffee, use a coarser grind and less coffee grounds.

- Double brewed coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

- Double brewing can be used with any type of coffee maker, including drip coffee makers, French presses, and pour-over coffee makers.
