* 1/2 cup of orange juice

* 1/2 cup of water

* 1/4 cup of sugar

* 1 cinnamon stick

* 4 whole cloves

* 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger

* 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg

* 1 star anise

Instructions:

1. In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, orange juice, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and star anise.

2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

3. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the wine is heated through.

4. Strain the mulled wine into a heatproof serving pitcher or punch bowl.

5. Serve hot with a garnish of orange slices and cinnamon sticks.

Tips:

* You can use any type of red wine for mulled wine, but a fruity red wine such as a merlot or cabernet franc is a good choice.

* If you do not have any orange juice, you can use apple cider or cranberry juice instead.

* You can add or omit spices to taste. Some other common spices used in mulled wine include cardamom, allspice, and vanilla bean.

* Mulled wine is best enjoyed hot, but you can also make it ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. When you are ready to serve, simply reheat it over low heat.

Mulled wine is a delicious and festive way to enjoy the winter holidays. It is also a great drink for parties and other social gatherings.
