Angle the hutch to sit in a corner if it is not going to serve as the focal point in the room. If it holds the TV or other media and is the main focus, position it opposite the largest piece of furniture in the room, such as a sofa or a bed.
Display decorative storage boxes, such as small treasure chest silverware boxes, on the shelves of the large hutch if the room requires extra storage space. Another option is unusual baskets.
Store your collectibles on the shelves of the hutch and in the bottom storage area. Alternate the arrangement every couple of months to display different items if your collection is quite large.
Mount decor, such as wall scones, two narrow mirrors or wrought iron scroll work, on either side of the large hutch. This helps balance the large size and draws attention to the furnishing as well.
Place an elegant lamp on one of the shelves inside the hutch if the piece is in a foyer or near an entrance or exit of your home. A banker's lamp or one with a crystal base or lampshade adds a classic and formal touch to the area. Position shorter knickknacks, such as porcelain figurines or pillar candles, on both sides of the lamp to provide balance.
