How to Make Champurrado or Mexican Hot Chocolate

Champurrado is a traditional Mexican hot chocolate made with ground corn, water, and chocolate (usually Mexican chocolate or tablet chocolate). It is a delicious and comforting drink perfect for cold weather.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup masa harina (corn flour)

- 2 cups water

- 2 cups milk

- 2 ounces of Mexican chocolate (tablet chocolate or Abuelita chocolate)

- 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)

- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/4 teaspoon anise seed (optional)

- Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the masa harina, water, milk, chocolate, sugar, cinnamon, and anise seed (if using). Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the mixture has thickened and is smooth.

2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

3. Pour the champurrado into a blender and blend until smooth.

4. Return the champurrado to the saucepan and reheat over low heat, stirring occasionally.

5. Serve the champurrado hot with whipped cream and extra cinnamon on top (if desired). Enjoy!
