How to Promote New Sod Growth

Water Properly

* Ensure new sod is watered thoroughly and frequently for the first few weeks

* Water early in the morning or evening to reduce water loss

* Continue to water regularly once sod has established, and increase in hot and dry weather

Mow Frequently

* Start mowing new sod once it has rooted into the soil and is growing actively

* Mow at a high setting to reduce stress on grass blades

* Avoid cutting off more than 1/3 of grass blade length

Fertilize Regularly

* Fertilize new sod to encourage strong growth and health

Aerate and De-thatch
