How to Make Mum Garland

Mum flower garlands make versatile additions to special event and home decor during autumn, when mums are in full bloom. You can use them to decorate along walls, railings and mantels, or hang them from any surface for a floral accent. Create your own mum garlands for any purpose. You can do this with common floral supplies using a straightforward and simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the blooms off of the mums with scissors, directly where the stem begins, leaving only the head of the flower.

    • 2

Cut a piece of floral wire, 8 inches longer than you want the garland to be, with wire cutters.

    • 3

Twist a loop on one end of the wire, using 4 inches of the wire. To do this, bend the 4-inch section and wrap the very end around the rest of the wire three or four times.

    • 4

Poke the straight end of the wire straight through the back of the bloom where the stem was cut and through the top in the center of the petals. Slide it down to rest on the loop at the other end.

    • 5

Slide more mum blooms over the wire the same way until only 4 inches of wire is left uncovered.

    • 6

Bend the final 4 inches of wire into a loop to finish the garland. Hang the loops over hooks or nails to hang it the garland.
