How to Clean Sweat Stains From Suit Jackets

Sweat stains on suit jackets can be unsightly and embarrassing, but they can be removed with a little effort. Here are some tips:

Spot Cleaning

1. Blot the stain as soon as possible. Don't rub it, as this can spread the stain and make it more difficult to remove.

2. Hold a damp cloth against the stain for a few minutes. This will help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

3. Gently blot the stain with a cloth dampened with a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Do not rub the stain, as this can damage the fabric.

4. Rinse the area with a clean, damp cloth.

5. Blot the area dry with a clean towel.

Hand Washing

1. If the stain is persistent, you may need to hand wash the suit jacket. Fill a sink or basin with cool water and add a mild detergent.

2. Submerge the suit jacket in the water and gently swish it around. Do not wring or twist the jacket, as this can damage the fabric.

3. Let the suit jacket soak for a few minutes.

4. Drain the sink or basin and rinse the suit jacket thoroughly with cool water.

5. Blot the suit jacket dry with a clean towel.

Dry Cleaning

1. If you're not comfortable hand washing the suit jacket, you can take it to a dry cleaner. Dry cleaners have the experience and equipment to remove sweat stains without damaging the fabric.

Once you have removed the sweat stains, be sure to protect the suit jacket from future stains by applying a stain repellent. Stain repellents can be found at most fabric stores.
