How to Make Potpourri From Spices in Your Cabinet to Cover Cigarette Smoke

Cigarette smoke permeates everything it comes in contact with, meaning that even one or two cigarettes smoked indoors will leave a smell for hours after. Eventually, if the smoking isn't a regular activity, the smell will dissipate. In the meantime, you can cover the smell with spices you likely have in your cabinet. For the best results, use whole spices -- but powder will work in a pinch.

Instructions

    • 1

Place 4 tea bags in a sauce pan and cover with 2 cups of water.

    • 2

Add whole or powdered spices. The quantity will depend on what you have on hand; for powdered spices, add a total of 4 or 5 tbsp. of spice, or five cinnamon sticks, 2 tbsp. whole cloves, 2 whole nutmeg and three whole pieces of anise.

    • 3

Sprinkle with fragrant dried herbs such as basil, rosemary and thyme.

    • 4

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer. The simmering spiced liquid will release a fragrance that will fill the room, covering the cigarette smell.

    • 5

      Add more water as necessary.
