How to Remove the Urine Smell From Leather

The combination of leather and urine is not a pleasant one for most people. Leather furniture can be difficult to maintain and urine is one of the strongest and most difficult to remove odors. Pet urine is a common source of soiled furniture. While getting rid of the stains may not be possible, depending on the specific color and composition of the material, the odor can be taken care of if it is caught quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a tablespoon of liquid soap, one quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and a quarter cup of baking soda in a plastic spray bottle.

    • 2

Spot test the mixture on a part of the leather that is not usually visible to see if it stains and if you want to use it.

    • 3

Mist the cleaning solution over the affected area of the leather and gently wipe it away with a damp cloth.

    • 4

Apply leather conditioner with a dry, soft cloth once the stain has dried.

    • 5

Utilize an enzyme cleaner to further break down the proteins in the urine stain and reduce any existing odor.

    • 6

Place Zeolite pouches in the pockets of any leather clothing or under the cushions of leather furniture. Zeolite is a natural odor-removing mineral that is available in many pet sections of stores.

    • 7

Spray a mixture of half white vinegar and half warm water onto the affected area if the urine odor is still detectable. White vinegar is a natural deodorizer and the vinegar scent should dissipate within minutes. Spot check before using it to ensure it won't damage the leather.
