How to Remove Mildew From the Dryer

If you haven’t used the dryer in a long time, mildew may develop there. When this happens, the mildew grows out of control and begins to decay the paint on the inside of the dryer drum. Prevent this issue by killing the mildew spores with a bleach solution, then rinsing the dryer with water.

Instructions

  1. Bleach Method

    • 1

Mix 2 cups of bleach with 2 cups of water.

    • 2

Pour the solution into a spray bottle, and spray the solution over the mildew growth on the dryer. Let it sit for 20 minutes.

    • 3

Scrub the mildew off the dryer with a scrubbing brush.

    • 4

Wipe the area with paper towels to remove the residue.

    • 5

Soak a cloth in water, and rub it over the entire dryer surface. This removes any bleach residue that can damage your clothes.

    • 6

Dry the area with a clean cloth.

    White Vinegar

    • 7

Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. White vinegar is a natural cleaning solution that can kill mildew spores.

    • 8

Spray the white vinegar directly over the mildew growth on the surface of the dryer. Let it sit for 10 minutes to give it time to kill the mildew spores.

    • 9

Scrub the mildew spores away with a scrubbing brush. Apply more white vinegar as needed until the spores are completely gone.

    • 10

Wipe the area dry with a clean cloth.
