How to Remove Moisture From Dryer Venting

Moisture around the dryer vent is a potentially serious problem. The moisture and humidity can lead to mold and mildew growth, which spreads into the dryer and onto your clothing. Lint is the main culprit behind the moisture build-up, but it is almost impossible to eliminate from your clothing. Reduce or eliminate the moisture around your dryer’s vent by keeping on top of the lint inside the filter and hose.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out the lint trap from the dryer after each cycle. Remove the lint trap and yank out the bulk of the lint with your fingers before gently tapping the trap against a hard surface, such as a garbage can or the side of the dryer, to eliminate the smaller chunks.

    • 2

Unplug the dryer and pull it at least three to four feet away from the wall and inspect the dryer hose. Detach the dryer hose from the back of the unit by depressing the metal clips or loosening any screws holding it in place. Clean out the excess lint found inside the dryer hose with a damp cloth or a vacuum’s wand attachment.

Reattach the dryer hose, paying attention to prevent kinking or twisting it while placing the dryer into place, which can cause a build-up of lint that leads to the excess moisture.

Locate the dryer’s exhaust vent. Check and remove any obstructions before cleaning the inside of the vent with a long, hard-bristled brush to remove any lint.
