Here are the steps on how to lacquer a photo wood:
Materials:
- Photo wood
- Lacquer (clear or tinted)
- Lint-free cloth
- Sandpaper (fine-grit)
- Tack cloth
- Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
Step 1: Sand the photo wood
Use fine-grit sandpaper to sand the photo wood in the direction of the grain. Sanding will help to smooth out any rough edges and prepare the surface for the lacquer.
Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.
Step 2: Apply the lacquer
Pour a small amount of lacquer into a shallow dish. Dip the lint-free cloth into the lacquer and wipe it onto the photo wood in thin, even coats. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves to protect your skin from the lacquer fumes.
Allow the first coat of lacquer to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 3: Sand between coats (Optional)
If you want a very smooth finish, lightly sand the photo wood with fine-grit sandpaper between each coat of lacquer. Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth before applying the next coat.
Step 4: Apply additional coats of lacquer
Apply additional coats of lacquer as desired, allowing each coat to dry completely before sanding and applying the next. The more coats you apply, the more durable the finish will be.
Step 5: Let the lacquer cure
Allow the final coat of lacquer to cure for at least 24 hours before handling the photo wood.
Now your photo wood is lacquered and ready to be displayed!
