Wallpaper Steamer Paste Removal

Wallpaper adds a decorative touch to any room. Over time, the style of your wallpaper may become outdated or the edges may begin to peel. When it comes time to remove it, a steamer will aid the process.
  1. Preparation

    • Before using steam to loosen the paste behind your wallpaper, the wall should be scored. Scoring creates small holes in the surface of the wallpaper, which will make it easier for steam to penetrate into the paste. Scoring tools are worked in a circular motion over the entire wall.

    Equipment

    • Steamers are relatively easy to use. Once water is put into the steamer's basin and the device is plugged in, steam will begin to emit from the steamer's handheld nozzle. Steamers can be purchased or rented from a home improvement store.

    Process

    • Once the steam begins to loosen the paste, the wallpaper should be grabbed along one edge and peeled away from the wall while sliding a paint scraper between the paper and the wall. Stubborn paste that remains on the wall can be removed using a paint scraper.
