Step-by-Step Guide
1. Locate the Stop Valve
The first step is to locate the stop valves for the faucet. These valves are usually located under the sink, but if you have a freestanding faucet, they may be located on the wall behind the faucet.
2. Turn Off the Water Supply
Once you have found the stop valves, turn them off to stop the flow of water to the faucet.
3. Remove the Handle
Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the handle in place. Then, pull the handle straight up to remove it.
4. Remove the Escutcheon
Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the escutcheon (the decorative cover) that surrounds the faucet stem.
5. Remove the Cartridge Assembly
Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the cartridge retaining nut. Then, remove the old cartridge by turning it counterclockwise.
6. Inspect the Cartridge
Inspect the old cartridge for any damage or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, you will need to replace it with a new one (Moen 1225 cartridge).
7. Install the New Cartridge
Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body and turn it clockwise to tighten it. Make sure that the cartridge is properly seated before you tighten the retaining nut.
8. Reinstall the Escutcheon
Reinstall the escutcheon and secure it with the Phillips head screws.
9. Reattach the Handle
Reattach the handle and secure it with the Phillips head screws.
10. Turn on the Water Supply
Turn on the stop valves under the sink to let the water flow into the faucet. Check for any leaks around the faucet. If there are any leaks, tighten the packing nut until the leak stops.
Your Moen 7385 faucet should now be repaired!
