How to Disassemble a Bathroom Faucet

Disassembling a bathroom faucet is a simple task that can be completed with a few basic tools. By following these steps, you can easily remove your faucet for cleaning, repair, or replacement.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you begin, make sure you have the following tools:

* Adjustable wrench

* Phillips head screwdriver

* Flat head screwdriver

* Pliers

* Basin wrench (optional)

Step 2: Turn Off the Water Supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to your faucet. This will prevent water from leaking out while you are working. There are typically two shut-off valves, one for hot water and one for cold water, located under the sink. Turn the valves clockwise until they are completely closed.

Step 3: Remove the Faucet Handle

The next step is to remove the faucet handle. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the handle in place. There may be one or two screws on each side of the handle. Once the screws are removed, pull the handle straight up to remove it.

Step 4: Remove the Cartridge

The cartridge is the part of the faucet that controls the flow of water. To remove the cartridge, use a flat head screwdriver to pry up the small tab that holds the cartridge in place. Once the tab is pried up, you can use your fingers or pliers to pull the cartridge out.

Step 5: Remove the Aerator

The aerator is the small screen located at the end of the faucet spout. It helps to aerate the water and reduce splashing. To remove the aerator, use a wrench to turn it counterclockwise until it comes loose.

Step 6: Remove the Faucet Body

The faucet body is the main part of the faucet. To remove the faucet body, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold it in place. There will be two nuts, one on each side of the faucet body. Once the nuts are loosened, you can pull the faucet body straight up to remove it.

Step 7: Reassemble the Faucet

Once you have disassembled the faucet, you can reassemble it in the reverse order. Make sure to tighten all of the nuts and screws securely to prevent leaks.

Step 8: Turn the Water Supply Back On

Once the faucet is reassembled, turn the water supply back on. Check for leaks and make sure the faucet is working properly.
