How to Apply Stucco Over Wood Siding

Step 1: Prepare the Wood Siding.

>* Remove any loose paint or caulking from the siding.

>* Sand the sidingsmooth.

>* Clean the siding with a power washer or a mixture of water and TSP (trisodium phosphate).

>* Let the siding dry completely.

Step 2: Install Stucco Wire.

>* Install stucco wire over the wood siding using 1-inch galvanized nails.

>* Place the stucco wire horizontally, starting at the bottom of the wall.

>* Overlap each row of stucco wire by 1 inch.

>* Wrap the stucco wire around any corners or trim.

Step 3: Apply a Scratch Coat.

>* Mix the scratch coat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

>* Apply the scratch coat to the stucco wire using a trowel.

>* The scratch coat should be about 1/8-inch thick.

>* Score the scratch coat with a trowel to create a rough surface.

Step 4: Let the Scratch Coat Dry.

>* Let the scratch coat dry for at least 24 hours.

Step 5: Apply a Brown Coat.

>* Mix the brown coat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

>* Apply the brown coat to the scratch coat using a trowel.

>* The brown coat should be about 1/4-inch thick.

>* Float the brown coat smooth with a trowel.

Step 6: Let the Brown Coat Dry.

>* Let the brown coat dry for at least 48 hours.

Step 7: Apply a Finish Coat.

>* Mix the finish coat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

>* Apply the finish coat to the brown coat using a trowel.

>* The finish coat should be about 1/8-inch thick.

>* Float the finish coat smooth with a trowel.

Step 8: Let the Finish Coat Dry.

>* Let the finish coat dry for at least 7 days.

Step 9: Seal the Stucco.

>* Seal the stucco with a water-repellent sealer.

>* Apply the sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
