How to Kick Wrinkles Out of the Carpet

Using a carpet tool you can rent or borrow is an effective way to smooth out any wrinkles in your carpeting. Overtime, old carpeting stretches and loosens due to traffic and vacuuming of this floor covering. Others reasons are improper installation or moving heavy furniture by sliding it across the flooring. Taut carpets provide a smooth surface that not only looks more attractive, it is safer to walk across. Eliminating the wrinkles also results in your carpet lasting longer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any furniture that is near the wrinkle. This allows you to smooth the carpeting properly. If there are several wrinkles in the carpet, it may be necessary to remove all the furniture to do the job well.

    • 2

Look at the bottom of the knee kicker. It has teeth or pegs that dig into the carpet fibers.

    • 3

Press the metal pegs into the carpeting. Do this about an inch out from the baseboard.

    • 4

Kneel on the carpet so you can draw back one knee and forcefully push it forward to hit the knee kicker. Your knee strikes the padded end of the carpet tool. The action causes the loose carpeting to reattach to the underlying tack strip. It smooths out the wrinkles, thus preventing tripping and an unsightly crease in the carpet.

Repeat the knee-kicking action as many times as necessary to smooth the carpet well. For the best results, remove the tool and reposition it slightly to the left of the first place you used the tool. Repeat the kick. Alternate to the right of the first place you used the tool and repeat the movement. Continue to alternate on either side until the wrinkle is smooth and stretched tightly.
