How to Get Indentations Out of the Carpet

Indentations in carpet are caused by furniture, whether it's a dresser, sofa, bed or chair sitting on top of the carpet. The weight of the furniture compresses the fibers in the carpet and when you move the furniture, you'll notice the carpet does not spring back up. Heavier furniture will cause a more severe indentation, while carpet with a thicker pile also will have a deeper indentation. The longer the furniture has been sitting on the carpet, the more difficult it will be to remove the indentation.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with water and spray the area of carpet that has the indentation. The carpet should be wet, but not completely saturated with water.

    • 2

Put a hair dryer on the hottest setting and blow dry the wet carpet. Doing this will help the carpet rebound.

    • 3

Run your fingers along the carpet indentation to loosen up the matted down carpet. If your fingers aren't doing the job, run a spoon along the carpet to try to loosen up the fibers.
