How to Get Pressure Marks Out of the Carpet

You've rearranged a room in your house, and though you're pleased with the new configuration, you're now faced with those ugly pressure marks on the carpet. Those pressure marks, or matting, happen when the carpet fibers compress under the weight of the furniture. The carpet will bounce back over time, but if you want to get the pressure marks out immediately, there are a few different steps you can take to fluff the carpet back up as if nothing was ever pushing it down.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum
  • Carpet rake
  • Damp towel
  • Steam iron

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust your vacuum so it is on the bare floor setting and slowly vacuum over the areas where there are pressure marks. The rotating brushes will help loosen the matted-down carpet fibers.

    • 2

Rake the pressure marks with the carpet rake. Apply moderate pressure to the rake to help pull up the carpet fibers.

    • 3

Place a damp towel over the pressure mark and then place the steam iron directly on top of the damp towel for 3 to 5 seconds, then pull the steam iron off the towel. By applying hot steam to the carpet, this will help fluff it up and remove the pressure mark.
