How to Reinstall New Ceiling Tiles Yourself

Over time tiles in your kitchen or bathroom are likely to crack, become damaged or simply fall off. This is especially true in the bathroom where the warm and damp conditions created by the hot showers and baths can weaken the tiling cement.

Things You'll Need

  • Ladder or steps
  • New tiles
  • Tile adhesive
  • Adhesive spreader
  • Spacers
  • Grout
  • Grouting tool
  • Hammer
  • Chisel
  • Sturdy palate knife
  • Tarp or waterproof sheet

Instructions

      Place the tarp or waterproof sheet on the floor to ensure no adhesive damages the flooring.

      Set up the ladder or steps at an appropriate position.

      Take out the tile you want to replace by scraping out the grout with a palate knife and levering it out with the knife blade or by breaking up the tile using the hammer and chisel.

      Remove and remaining adhesive from the wall using the hammer and chisel

      Spread some tile adhesive on the back of the new tile using the adhesive spreader.

      Attach the new tile to the wall ensuring it is flush with the other tiles.

      Leave to dry overnight or for as long as the adhesive manufacturer recommends.

      Fill in the gap around the tiles with the grout and the grouting tool and leave to dry.
