Full-sized beds are ideal for tighter spaces, where you want a little room but a queen will take up too much floor space. Many stores consider a full a custom size and do not regularly stock comforters that will fit full-sized beds as they do sheets. So not only will you pay the high price comforters usually demand, but the store may also request a fee for special ordering the comforter for you. Spend a lot less by making a comforter for your full-sized bed using inexpensive cotton sheets. It will be useable all year and washable.
Lay out the first full-sized flat sheet with the right side facing up. Spread the other full-sized flat sheet out over the first with the wrong side facing up. Line up the edges perfectly and make sure there are no wrinkles.
Trim the sheet batting so that it is 1/4 inch shorter and 1/4 inch narrower than the full-sized sheets. Place the batting on top of the sheets so that there is 1/8 of an inch left uncovered on all sides.
Pin the 3 layers together. Keep the pins in a straight line 1/8 inch from each edge of the batting. Leave open the short side where the sheet trim is located.
Sew lines of straight stitches down all 3 pinned sides, removing pins as you go. Trim away excess threads at the corners. Turn the entire piece right-side-out, keeping the batting between the top and bottom sheets. Turn in the top edges of the open end and whip-stitch this edge closed.
