• Vinyl wallpaper can refer to either pure vinyl attached to a paper, fabric or laminated backing or wallpaper with an acrylic or vinyl coating added on top of the wallpaper. Both types of vinyl wallpaper are commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms since they withstand grease and humidity fluctuations relatively well. Paintable Wallpaper

Differences

• The main difference between paintable wallpaper and vinyl wallpaper is the ability to paint on one but not the other. Paint cannot adhere correctly to vinyl wallpaper, and trying to paint it will leave you with a mess. In addition, paintable wallpaper is generally white in color and after installation is meant to be painted. Furthermore, paintable wallpaper can be more expensive than vinyl wallpaper depending on the brand, type and size of the wallpaper you purchase. Before buying the wall covering, consider your redecorating budget.

• For best results, always follow the installation and care instructions included with the brand and type of wallpaper you purchase. If you do not plan to paint the wallpaper after installing it on the wall, choose vinyl over paintable wallpaper.
