How to Remove Vinyl Border Adhesive

Vinyl wallpaper border is usually applied as a decorative element along the top area of walls or horizontally across the middle. It is fairly easy to apply, but removing it can be a challenge. Often, when you grab a corner of the vinyl and pull, the border comes off easily but leaves adhesive behind. In order to paint or reapply wallpaper, the hardened adhesive must be removed, but chipping it off can damage the wall's surface. You will need to soften the adhesive to remove it without damaging the wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the wallpaper remover gel onto the adhesive on the wall. Let it sit for about 20 minutes to soften the glue.

    • 2

Scrape off the adhesive in a sweeping motion, using the scraper. You will probably not need to apply too much pressure since the adhesive should be softened at this point. If you need to scrape a little harder, take care not to gouge the wall.

Dip the sponge or cloth in warm water and clean the area. If the wall still feels sticky, spray a little of the wallpaper remover on the spot, give it a few minutes to soften the glue and scrape the wall again.
