1. Turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker.
- *If you don't know which circuit breaker controls the light fixture, you can use a voltage tester to check each one until you find the one that is live.*
2. Remove the light fixture cover.
- *This will expose the wires that are connected to the light fixture.*
3. Disconnect the wires from the light fixture.
- *There are usually two or three wires: a black wire (hot), a white wire (neutral), and a green or bare wire (ground).*
- *Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the wires in place, and then pull the wires off of the terminals.*
4. Remove the light fixture from the wall.
- *There may be screws or bolts that hold the light fixture to the wall.*
- *If there are screws, remove them using a screwdriver. If there are bolts, remove them using a wrench.*
5. Install the new light fixture.
- *To install the new light fixture, simply reverse the steps above.*
- *Be sure to reconnect the wires correctly, and make sure that the light fixture is securely fastened to the wall.*
- If you are uncomfortable working with electricity, you can hire an electrician to remove the light fixture for you.
- If you are replacing an old light fixture with a new one, be sure to check the new light fixture's instructions for installation details.
- If you are unsure how to disconnect the wires, take a photo of the connections before you start disassembling the light fixture. This will help you to remember how to reconnect the wires when you install the new light fixture.
