1. Gather your tools and materials.
- New light fixture
- Light bulb
- Screwdriver
- Wire cutters
- Pliers
- Safety glasses
2. Turn off the power.
- Go to your home's circuit breaker panel and turn off the circuit that controls the light fixture you're replacing.
- If you don't know which circuit controls the light fixture, you can turn off the main power to your home.
3. Remove the old light fixture.
- Unscrew the screws that hold the old light fixture in place.
- Carefully remove the old light fixture from the ceiling.
4. Disconnect the wires.
- Using your wire cutters, cut the wires that connect the old light fixture to the power supply.
- Strip the ends of the wires about 1/2 inch.
5. Connect the wires to the new light fixture.
- Connect the black wire from the new light fixture to the black wire from the power supply.
- Connect the white wire from the new light fixture to the white wire from the power supply.
- Connect the green or bare copper wire from the new light fixture to the green or bare copper wire from the power supply.
6. Mount the new light fixture.
- Place the new light fixture against the ceiling and secure it with the screws that you removed in step 3.
7. Install the light bulb.
- Screw the light bulb into the new light fixture.
8. Turn on the power.
- Go to your home's circuit breaker panel and turn on the circuit that controls the light fixture you replaced.
- If you turned off the main power to your home in step 2, you can now turn it back on.
Your new light fixture is now installed and ready to use!
