How to Stabilize Lightweight Furniture

Buying lightweight furniture for your home is an inexpensive and often easier purchase experience. Lifting lightweight furniture up several flights of stairs is a far cheerier prospect than a wooden piece of furniture. The downside to lightweight furniture is that it is lightweight and tends to be less stable than a heavier piece would be. However, you can bulk up the furniture with a few well placed accessories, such as a heavy throw of faux fur, wool or tapestry. Furniture glides are caps that can either be nailed or glued onto the base of the chair leg. They help to weight down and also to cushion the chair against the floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw or nail the furniture glides into each leg of the furniture by either twisting the screw end into the pre-drilled hole in the bottom of the leg, or pounding the nail end of the glide into the solid bottom of the leg.

    • 2

Fold the throw in half lengthwise then place the throw on the seat cushion of the furniture, laying it across the entire seat and resting on each arm.

    • 3

Place the throw pillows on the back of the cushion, upright, side by side, one at each corner of the furniture.
