How to Vent a Bathroom Cabinet

Sometimes a homeowner may discover that their bathroom cabinets are warmer on the inside than the bathroom is on the outside of the cabinet. This situation is often caused by a floor vent being covered by the cabinet. To correct this, a vent is installed in the kickplate of the cabinet to allow the warm air to flow out of the trapped space and into the bathroom. Adding the vent is a simple process that can be accomplished in a short time.

Instructions

Measure the height of the kickplate. Select a vent cover that is 1 inch smaller in height and as wide as possible.

    • 2

Turn the vent cover upside down and measure the outside dimensions of the installation frame. This frame will be inset from the outer edge of the cover by up to 1 inch on all sides. Transfer your measurement to the kickplate. Center the width and height. Draw the shape on the kickplate and check your measurements.

Cut 1/8-inch outside your lines using a small rotary cutting tool. Remove the cut out section.
